4 Essential Tricks For Keeping Your Storage Unit Organized

Blog

If you want to keep your storage unit organized, there are some tricks you can utilize to ensure that everything stays where it should and that your storage unit doesn't become a big dumping ground for everything you don't want in your home.

Use One Box Size

If you want to keep things organized inside your storage unit, stick to using one box size. It will make it easier to stack your boxes on top of each other. The best box size is medium. You should be able to fit most of your belongings inside medium-sized boxes. Being able to stack your boxes on top of each other will help you maximize your space.

Take Apart Large Items

Second, you are going to want to take apart large items. If you have a bookshelf to put in your storage unit, see if you can break it down. Or, if you had a large dining room table, see if you can take off the legs or if the tabletop breaks up into smaller pieces. Taking large items and breaking them up into smaller ones will allow you to more effectively store items inside your unit and take full advantage of the space you are paying for.

Be Selective About What You Store

It is important to be selective about what you are storing. Your storage unit should not become a dump where you put everything you don't want to keep in your home. Before you put items in your storage unit, go through them. Donate items in good condition that you don't want to use. Throw away items that are not in good condition and that you do not want to keep. Only put items in storage that you really care about and want to have access to in the future.

Label Everything

There is no such thing as too many labels when it comes to a storage unit. Label your boxes by the category of the item inside them, for example, clothing or decorations or outdoor goods. Then, create a list on the side of each box that includes exactly what is inside of the box. Create a floor plan that shows you where different categories are located. Create an inventory list to know what is inside your storage unit.

Keep your storage unit organized by keeping everything in one box size. Take oversized items apart, so they don't take up too much room. Be selective about what you put in your storage unit; you don't want the space to become messy. Label everything; it will make it easier to find things.

The process of selecting and setting up a storage facility was stressful because I did not know what to expect. Since then, I have learned the ropes and wish to share my knowledge with you all through this site. I invite you to come by anytime you need to learn more about acquiring a personal storage unit.
